Practice Based Commisioning

Sometimes referred to as “PBC”, this is the means by which the primary care clinicians and the patient population of a locality can influence the range of health care services delivered in that locality.

By working together they can commission services which the PCT will procure on their behalf, establishing contracts with Hospital Trusts and Independent Health Care Providers, as well as Federations of Primary Care practices, for the delivery of care closer
to home.
